Sprinkler Winterizing

The first step in winterizing your lawn sprinkler system is to understand how it works. You will need to know where all valves, taps, and drains are.

Once you find the main water source, close it. This valve will be underground or inside a nonfreezing area.

Next, open all drains, taps, and valves. If there is a backflow assembly you will need to open the test cocks and leave the shut-off valves in the open position.

Lastly, remove any batteries from the timer and unplug it from the wall.
